Where the actual selling happens in a supermarket

If you've walked through a supermarket in the last week, you've walked past dump bins. Probably bought from one. The two-for-one chocolate at the front of the wine aisle. The summer barbecue accessories at the entrance. The Halloween confectionery clearance at the end of October. These — not the fixed shelving — are where the promotional action happens in modern retail.

A dump bin is doing three things at once. It's holding stock at high density (more cubic litres of product per square foot of floor space than any other POS format). It's getting attention with branded graphics on all four sides plus a header. And it's signalling 'this is on offer' through its very presence outside of the normal fixture — the customer knows, intuitively, that the bin won't be there next week, so they buy now.

Flat-pack as standard

Every dump bin we make ships flat-packed. Folded down to a stack of printed cardboard panels that take up roughly 10% of the assembled volume. The brand or category team can pallet them to depots, store staff assemble them in the aisle in 30–60 seconds with no tools needed. When the promotion ends, they collapse back down and either ship to another store or get recycled. This is non-negotiable for supermarket buyers — assembled bins are a non-starter for national rollouts.

Print quality that holds up

Full-colour litho print for volume runs (1,000+), digital print for short runs and prototypes. FSC-certified single-flute or double-flute board depending on weight load. Aqueous-coated for moisture resistance (essential for fresh produce, drinks and chilled-aisle bins) or matt finish for premium brand work. Pantone matching to brand spec, often with white ink under-base for vivid colour reproduction on coated board.

Sizes that fit the standards

Quarter pallet (600×400mm footprint) — the most common format, fits two-by-two on a CHEP pallet. Half pallet (800×600mm) — for larger brand campaigns. Full pallet (1200×800mm or 1200×1000mm) — for major end-of-aisle activations. Counter-top — smaller branded bins for till-point impulse buys. Custom — non-standard footprints for niche fixtures or convenience format stores.

What's the minimum order?

50 units for digitally-printed runs, 250+ for litho-printed runs (the litho setup costs make smaller runs uneconomic). For larger national rollouts we'll quote anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000+ unit programmes.

What board do you use?

FSC-certified single-flute (E-flute) board for lighter products, double-flute (B/E or B/C combined) for heavier products. All board sourced from UK mills with full traceability. We'll spec the right board based on the weight of your product and the campaign length.

How do you print them?

Digital print for short runs (50–500) and prototypes — full CMYK with optional spot white under-base. Litho print for larger runs (500+) — sharper colour, lower per-unit cost, Pantone matching available. Aqueous coating for moisture resistance.

Do they ship flat-pack?

Yes — all dump bins ship flat-packed as standard. Stacked on pallets and shrink-wrapped. Store staff assemble in 30–60 seconds without tools. This is non-negotiable for supermarket distribution — pre-assembled bins are uneconomic to ship.

How long do they last?

Designed for a single promotional window (typically 2–4 weeks). They will physically last longer (months in dry indoor conditions) but the cardboard isn't designed for years of use. For multi-year use, ask about our acrylic or reinforced double-wall hybrid bins.

What's the lead time?

5–7 working days from artwork sign-off for digital runs. 10–14 working days for litho runs to allow for plate-making. Express turnaround available for emergencies. National rollouts quoted on programme with phased delivery to depot or store-direct.

Can you ship store-direct?

Yes — we work with several retailers to ship dump bins direct to specific stores rather than to central depots. Requires accurate store address files; we'll handle the logistics.

Do you do non-standard footprints?

Yes — quarter, half and full pallet are most common but we'll make non-standard sizes for convenience-store footprints, kiosk fixtures, or any other space constraint. Send us the target dimensions.

Do you offer Pantone matching?

Yes — we Pantone-match brand colours on litho-printed runs. For digital print we get close but absolute Pantone matching is litho-only because of the print process. Sample swatches available before full run.

Do you offer trade pricing for brands and agencies?
